TV Meme: Day 18

Day 18 - Favorite Title Sequence

This one wasn't terribly hard, what was hard was getting the actual video to show you.  My first thought was the new Parenthood show's opening sequence.  Like Friends before it, the opening sequence sets a good tone for the rest of the show.  I like the show too, so I enjoy watching the opening sequence.  However, NBC hasn't made it easily available yet.  Second, I thought of the only other show's opening sequence I watch, Burn Notice, which basically explains the shows premise every week, but in a way I like watching.  However, that too wasn't easy to find.  So I'll go with my next favorite.  The opening sequence to Buffy the Vampire Slayer which, while unoriginal in the idea (a song over scenes from the show), I still like it.

Buffy's opener may be the more traditional credits, but it is much better than most that use the formula. The theme song is fantastic, starting with the organ and the wolf howl. And they always seemed to choose the corresponding scenes well. I liked that when Oz was on the show they would always show him playing guitar while that prominent guitar riff plays in the theme, then after Seth left the show it was Spike jamming to the song in his car with the same beat. Things like that make it far more clever. I also like the way it always ends with a shot of Buffy looking like the total badass she is. These more traditional credits CAN be done well and this is proof.

My favorite is the opening to True Blood, which is quite possibly even better than the show itself.

I always enjoyed Buffy's opening, but I found the Angel theme much more haunting.
