With The Tourist, Alice in Wonderland, Red and Easy A getting nominations, but only one for Winter's Bone, I think it's safe to say these "awards" are nothing but a big drunken joke.

Rachel - I've been a hold-out from all the Globes bashing about them just wanting to meet/hang out with really famous people, but this list reads more like people didn't even see the movie - The Tourist as a comedy or musical? And for TV comedy - almost none of them are merely comedies. I did like the nomination for Julia Styles and The Walking Dead. But Michael Douglas? Really?

Red was loads of fun and all, but not in a "best of" way. I would laugh if I wasn't crying so hard. At least pick Scott Pilgrim for that!

Yeah, and Burlesque over Scott Pilgrim or even over Easy A? Odd, odd choices.

I can answer the BARNEY'S VERSION question for ya.

It's a Canadian film based on a very famous Canadian novel by Mordecai Richler. Briefly, the book is about a man from Montreal telling his life story, centering quite a bit on his three failed marriages.

The book was rather well received up here and was put into film development for what seemed like forever.

Eventually, filming began with quite the cast in tow (Hoffman, Minnie Driver, Paul Giamatti, Rosamund Pike)and it even played a gala screening at TIFF this year.

But by all accounts, it really isn't much to write home about...which makes it fall in line perfectly with what the HFPA seem to be about lately!

Thanks Hatter! Sounds interesting, but not necessarily award worthy. I'll keep it in mind.

I liked the Tourist, but am surprised that it got so many nominations. Depp was OK, but not in a "Best Actor" way. "Toy Story 3" should have been up for best Comedy or Musical.

I plan to see Black Swan and The Tourist today. Do you have any favorites for the Golden Globes? Any surprise nomination omissions? True Grit, Jeff Bridges and the Coen Brothers are oddly missing.

Absolutely horrendous and almost comical. Let's face it, Depp and Jolie got nominations only to shore up the ratings for the telecast...

@Clarabela - I was happy to see Julia Styles get nominated for Dexter, and in general, the TV categories weren't horrendous, but for movies, there were too many oversights and mis-steps to actually predict. Of course, since I'm an awards junkie, I'll post predictions the week of the awards.

@Castor - that's a good description, comical. The Tourist as a comedy is funny. Hatter once called it the Desperate Housewives effect (a show that continuously was nominated as a comedy which is more often a dark drama) and I think the Globes take that to an extreme level just trying to get as many people included. I really enjoyed "Love and other drugs" but neither actor should have been included here.
